AbstractParticipation in European Parliament Elections. Assessment of gender equality. Topics: participation in the European Parliament elections in 2004 or in 2007 (only in BG and RO); intention to vote in the European Parliament elections in 2009; most important criterion for the personal election decision; time of election decision; most important characteristics of the candidates; most important issues to be prioritized by the European Parliament with regard to gender equality in family life; most important issues to be prioritized by the European Parliament with regard to gender equality in society; best way to achieve equal payment: new legislation, reinforce existing laws, more information on existing rights; preferred level of action: own country, EU level; domination of politics by men; women in politics would add new viewpoints; preferred proportion of women in the European Parliament; most effective way to increase proportion of women; assessment of the representation of women’s interests by the EU; impact of the activities of the European Parliament on selected areas of personal life: family life, working life, women’s rights, health, education, welfare; assessment of personal work-life-balance; reasons for not being employed currently; experience with unfair treatment due to being a woman; place of unfair treatment: work, home, society in general. Demography: sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; interviewer ID; language of the interview; country; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; type of phone line; region; weighting factor.

  •  EB - Flash Eurobarometer
    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
