AbstractAttitude towards EU competition policy. Topics: attitude towards selected statements regarding competition between companies: allows for better consumer prices, allows for more choice for consumers, price agreements should be interdicted, companies receiving financial aid from governments are given unfair advantages over their competitors, companies receiving financial aid from governments should be interdicted to compete on European level, mergers between large companies distort competition, consumers and society in the own country benefit from controlling competition at national and at European level, necessity to protect small companies; perception of the aforementioned issues in the media in the last year; most important sectors lacking competition in prices and product choice and reasons for this; desire for more information on selected issues of competition policy. Demography: sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community. Additionally coded was: interviewer ID; language of the interview; country; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; type of phone line; region; weighting factor.

  •  EB - Flash Eurobarometer
    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
