AbstractAttitudes to the EU and ideas about further development of the Union. Topics: Attitude to membership of the country in the European Union and assessment of the advantageousness of this membership; satisfaction with democracy; assessment of the influence of national representatives on decisions in the European Union; assessment of the development of the situation of the country regarding the economic situation, the situation in the job market, purchasing power, insurance protection, earnings-related unemployment benefit and the social climate; judgement on current and future personal economic situation; knowledge about the white book of the EC Commission on growth, competitive ability and employment; expected effects of this white book; vision of an EU in the year 2000 regarding an expansion to the east, the presence of a uniform currency, a uniform job market, a common fight against crime and terrorism, a common security and defense policy as well as regarding a common economic policy and common social and job market policies; age at conclusion of school or university education; party preference (Sunday question).

NotesThe study is part of an omnibus survey. The Flash Eurobarometers are short interviews between the semi-annual Eurobarometers addressing current European topics. Further Flash Eurobarometers are archived under ZA Study Nos. 2330, 2362 to 2365 as well as 2401, 2402, 2457, 2458, 2470, 2471, 2482, 2483, 2494 and 2495. The total number of respondents of the data set are distributed among the individual countries as follows: Belgium 485 cases, Denmark 513 cases, Federal Republic of Germany (West) 498 cases, Federal Republic of Germany (East) 509 cases, Greece 500 cases, Spain 502 cases, France 503 cases, Ireland 500 cases, Italy 501 cases, Luxembourg 504 cases, Netherlands 501 cases, Portugal 500 cases, United Kingdom 513 cases.   •  EB - Flash Eurobarometer
    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
