AbstractQuestions on security policy and disarmament control. Comparison of the USA and the USSR. Attitude to the peaceful and military use of atomic energy. Topics: judgement on one´s own economic situation; attitude to space flight; attitude to selected countries and politicians in East and West; judgement on the international conference on nuclear questions; judgement on the efforts of selected countries in peaceful use of atomic energy; characterization of the USA and the Soviet Union; assessment of the danger of war and the efforts of the USA and the USSR in preventing a world war; the country responsible for the strained relations between the USA and the USSR; desired political orientation of one´s own country; judgement on the Eisenhower plan for disarmament control; attitude to NATO and to the admisssion of China to the UN; attitude to arms limitations even without a control system; expectation of the next Four Power Conference; attitude to restriction of trade with the East; attitude to a demilitarized zone in Europe and judgement on a European security system on condition of reunification of Germany; evaluation of the independence of Eastern countries from the USSR and changes perceived from the Geneva Conference; assessment of the priorities in the use of atomic energy for peaceful or military purposes in the USA or USSR; seriousness of the American and Soviet efforts to outlaw nuclear weapons; judgement on the attitude of the USA to China; desired position of one´s own country in case of a conflict in Asia; assessment of the danger of war between the USA and China as well as between China and Formosa; preferred form of government for Formosa and desired American reaction to an attack on Formosa by Red China; party preference; trade union membership (only FRG and Great Britain). Interviewer rating: assessment of social class of respondent. In France the following questions were also asked: housing status; possession of vehicle and radio; employment of household help.
