AbstractAssessment of parties and politicians. Attitude towards actual political questions and topics. Topics: Most important political issues in Bavaria; intention to vote in the state election; intended type of election (polling station or postal vote); party preference (first and second vote); certainty of one´s own voting decision; importance of federal policy for one´s own election decision at the state level; interest in the state election; voting behaviour in the last state election; attitude towards a single government of the CSU; coalition preference; attitude towards a coalition of CSU and free voters, of CSU and Greens, of CSU and SPD, Split A: from CSU, free voters and FDP, from CSU and AfD (end of Split A), Split B: from CSU, Greens and FDP as well as from Greens, SPD and Free Voters (end of split B); sympathy scale for selected parties at federal and state level; satisfaction with the performance of the CSU state government in Bavaria and the performance of the SPD, the Free Voters and the Greens in the opposition, as well as the performance of the federal government from CDU/CSU and SPD (scale); sympathy scale for selected top politicians (Hubert Aiwanger, Ludwig Hartmann, Natascha Hartmann, Angela Merkel, Horst Seehofer and Markus Söder); Party that pleases best or second best; political interest; preference for Markus Söder or Natascha Kohnen as prime minister in Bavaria or for Markus Söder or Ludwig Hartmann as Prime Minister; Split A: comparison of the credibility, sympathy and expertise of Markus Söder and Ludwig Hartmann (end of Split A); Split B: assessment of Markus Söder as credible, sympathetic and with a lot of expertise (end of Split B); Split A: assessment of the own economic situation, the economic situation of the federal state in general as well as in comparison to the other West German states; most competent party for solving the economic problems in Bavaria (end of Split A); Split B: most competent party to solve the problems on the housing market, in the area of family policy, social justice and environmental policy in Bavaria (end of Split B); Bavaria can cope with many refugees; party that most likely represents a policy in the respondent´s sense in the areas of refugees and asylum as well as school and education policy; opinion on the future viability of the federal state; most competent party to solve future problems of the federal state; assessment of the work of Prime Minister Markus Söder; Split A: significance of Chancellor Angela Merkel, of Horst Seehofer as well as the arguments between the CSU and the CDU for the performance of the CSU in the state election (helpful, harms rather or does not play a big role); political contents or good performance in the state election as motivation of the CSU in these arguments; after a bad election result of the CSU in the state elections Horst Seehofer should resign as CSU party chairman (end of Split A); Split B: statements on politics in Bavaria: CSU has lost touch with what really moves Bavaria; CSU can no longer be elected to the political centre because it has moved too far to the right; the Greens in Bavaria stand for a modern, bourgeois policy; opinion on the future political course of the CSU; government participation helpful for the SPD´s performance in the regional elections (end of Split B); true accusation that the CSU has adopted the political content of the AfD; adoption of this AfD content by the CSU helpful for the CSU´s performance in the state election or for the AfD´s performance in the state election; opinion on the CSU´s withdrawal from the state government; opinion on the participation of the Greens in the government after the state elections; voting for the AfD on the basis of political conviction or as a warning to other parties; voted for the AfD on the basis of political conviction or as a warning to other parties (AfD voters only); opinion on the spread of right-wing extremist ideas in the AfD.     The available studies on the German ferderal state elections go back as far as 1962. These studies were conducted for the most part as representative surveys in the run-up to elections of the Landtage, the Bremer Bürgerschaft or the Berliner Abgeordnetenhaus. German Federal State Election studies which were surveyed within the framework of the German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES) are not contained in this group.
