AbstractAwareness and assessment of the EU regional policy. Topics: awareness of EU co-financed projects in the own city or region; sources of information on EU-support for the own region or city; assessment of the impact of the support on the development of the own city or region; awareness of: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Cohesion Fund, both; personal benefit in daily life from a project funded by one of the aforementioned funds; preference for concentrating support on poorer regions or for supporting all regions equally; prioritized regions to support: regions with high unemployment, border regions, deprived urban areas, developed regions in order to maintain their competitiveness, remote rural or mountain areas; importance of supporting the own city or the own region by EU regional policy actions in the fields of: research and innovation, small and medium-sized businesses, renewable and clean energy, energy networks, broadband and internet access, environment, transport facilities, vocational training, education, health and social infrastructure, tourism and culture, integration of refugees and migrants; preferred level of decision making about EU regional policy projects: local, regional, national, EU; awareness of cooperating regions of different countries due to EU regional funding; awareness of Interreg; awareness of the European Solidarity Fund to respond to natural disasters and use of the fund in the own country; awareness of the strategy to promote cooperation between countries around the: Baltic Sea, Danube river, Adriatic and Ionian Sea, Alpine area; naming of EU outermost regions. Demography: age; sex; nationality; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; region; type of community; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; household composition and household size. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; type of phone line; nation group; weighting factor.

    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
