AbstractSatisfaction with rail services. Topics: frequency of using rail for: suburban trips (except metro), national or regional trips (excluding suburban trains), international trips; most frequent purpose for travelling by train; way of getting from home to railway station: walk, bike, car or motorbike, public transport; satisfaction with the following rail travel services: provision of information about train timetables, ease of buying tickets, availability of through-tickets, information on connections with other modes of transport, availability of tickets for a journey using several modes, easy and accessible complaint-handling mechanisms, cleanliness and good maintenance of stations, car parking facilities; importance of the quality of each of the aforementioned services; satisfaction with the following features of railway travel: frequency of trains, punctuality and reliability, provision of information during the journey, availability of WiFi on the trains, availability of staff on the train, cleanliness and good maintenance of carriages, availability of seats on trains; satisfaction with the accessibility of railway stations for persons with reduced mobility regarding: stations or platforms, booking process, assistance of staff, train carriages, information; reasons for not traveling by train. Demography: age; sex; nationality; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; household composition and household size; region. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; type of phone line; accessibility issues of respondent or household member when using different methods of transport; nation group; weighting factor.

    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
