Topics: Willingness to participate in the impending metropolitan council election and decision for an absentee ballot; voting for the same party as in the last metropolitan council election; party preference (list procedure and rank order procedure); time of personal voting decision; election of personalities or matter-of-fact voting decision; importance of federal-level political topics for one´s own political decisions at state level; behavior at the polls in the last metropolitan council election; party one cannot vote for; sympathy scale for the leading state politicians as well as senate and opposition; coalition preference; most important topics of state politics with influence on one´s voting decision; suitability as a coalition partner of the SPD and FDP in Hamburg; expected election winner; expected influence of election result on the situation of the Bonn SPD/FDP government; religiousness; union membership; party inclination and party identification; characterization of residential surroundings by means of occupational groups.

    The available studies on the German ferderal state elections go back as far as 1962. These studies were conducted for the most part as representative surveys in the run-up to elections of the Landtage, the Bremer Bürgerschaft or the Berliner Abgeordnetenhaus. German Federal State Election studies which were surveyed within the framework of the German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES) are not contained in this group.
