Abstract | Attitudes in the United Kingdom towards the EU. Topics: self-rated knowledge about the European Union, its policies and institutions; use of selected information sources on the EU: friends and relatives, daily newspapers, other newspapers, TV, radio, internet, brochures, EU information offices, MEP, other; preferred way of information: brochure, internet, TV, radio, daily newspaper, other newspapers, other; assessment of the appropriateness of media coverage with European Union issues; assessment of the UK’s EU membership as a good thing; benefits from the EU membership; attitude towards the assumed failure of the EU; attitude towards the following issues: European monetary union with one single currency, common foreign policy of all member states, common defence and security policy, further enlargement, responsibility of the EU for comprehensive issues, resignation of the President of the European Commission and the European Commissioners in case of missing support in the European Parliament, school education on the EU; trust in the following institutions: press, radio, TV, trade unions, political parties, civil service, big companies, British government, British Parliament, European Union, United Nations, NGOs; preference with regard to decision-making by the national government or at EU level in the following fields: fight against poverty and social exclusion, environmental protection, quality of food products, consumer protection, fight against unemployment, fight against organised crime, guarantee of fundamental rights, fight against terrorism, challenges of the ageing population. Demography: sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; region; type of community.
