Abstract | Food waste and date marking. Topics: most important actors in preventing food waste; helpful measures to reduce personal food waste: clearer information with regard to expiry dates, clearer information on product labels (e.g. on storage and preparation), better meal planning, availability of smaller portion sizes, using up leftovers, freeze food for longer preservation; awareness of expiry dates when shopping or preparing meals; meaning of ´best before´; meaning of ´use by´; importance of expiry dates on non-perishable foods; assumed use of non-perishable foods without expiry date: use it anyway, use it if package is not damaged and product looks all right, throw it away, respondent never looks at dates; use of products which have to be used within a certain number of days: use it if package is not damaged and product looks all right, throw it away, respondent never looks at dates, depends on type of food. Demography: age; sex; nationality; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; household composition and household size; region; weighting factor. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; type of phone line; nation group. |
