AbstractAttitude towards selected policy areas with regard to EU action. Topics: concern about each of the following areas: immigration policy, asylum policy, exchange of police and judicial information between member states, fight against organised crime and terrorism, fight against drug abuse, control of external EU borders, promoting and protecting fundamental rights, improving access to justice; added value of action on EU level compared to national level with regard to the aforementioned areas; policy area that needs more efficient communication through the EU. Demography: sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; interviewer ID; language of the interview; country; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; type of phone line; region; weighting factor.

    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
