AbstractAttitudes of young people towards education and training, mobility, and employment and entrepreneurship. Topics: assessment of vocational education and training as attractive option for young people in the own country; most important reasons to go into vocational education and training; assessment of higher education as attractive option for young people in the own country; most important reasons to go into higher education; own stay abroad for learning or training purposes; main purpose and total time of stay abroad; financing of longest stay; most important benefits; own stay abroad for at least one month for: working, volunteering, other educational context, other reasons; main reasons for not spending time abroad; main concerns regarding getting a job after finishing education; assessment of guidance and counselling during school education; wish to set up own business; wish to work in another European country. Demography: nationality; age; sex; current type of education; highest completed level of education; employment status. Additionally coded was: interviewer ID; language of the interview; country; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; type of phone line; call history; region; weighting factor.

    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
