AbstractAttitude to the European Union and European policies. Topics: Knowledge about the Maastricht Treaty and conduct in case of a public opinion poll; self-classification of extent of knowledge about the agreements; attitude to approval of a European currency union, European Central bank, common foreign policy, common defense policy, common social policy, common immigration policy and combating crime in common; attitude to strengthening the European Parliament and to support of the European Commission by the majority of the parliament; attitude to passive and active right to vote for EC citizens in municipal elections; attitude to parliamentary supervision of the European Government by the European Parliament and the European Council; attitude to responsibility of the European Community for all questions that cannot effectively be solved at national level; self-classification on a left-right scale; age at conclusion of school or university education.

NotesThe study is part of an omnibus survey. The Flash Eurobarometers are short interviews, introduced between the semi-annual Eurobarometers and taking up current European topics. Further Flash Eurobarometers are archived under ZA Study Nos. 2330, 2362 to 2365 as well as 2401, 2402, 2470, 2471 and 2571 to 257. The total number of respondents of the data set is distributed among the individual countries as follows: Belgium 1002 cases, Denmark 1002 cases, Federal Republic of Germany (West) 1009 cases, Greece 1000 cases, Spain 1002 cases, France 999 cases, Ireland 1400 cases, Italy 1026 cases, Luxembourg 302 cases, Netherlands 852 cases, Portugal 998 cases, Great Britain 916 cases. A cumulated data set of the semi-annual Eurobarometers (1973-1992) is archived under ZA Study No. 2533.

  •  EB - Flash Eurobarometer
    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
