AbstractViews on participation in democratic life. Themes: Participation in any politicial election during the last three years; willingness to candidacy in a political election; knowledge test regarding the direct election of the members of the European Parliament by the citizens of each EU Member State; probability of respondent´s vote in the next European Elections in 2014 (10-point-scale); reasons against and reasons for the respondent´s vote intention in the next European Elections; participation in activities of selected organisations (e.g. a sports club, a politicial party, an organisation promoting human rights or global development). Demography: Age; gender; age when finished full-time education; type of education or training if still student; highest level of education; occupation and occupational status; region; type of community (degree of urbanization); possession of a mobile phone and a landline phone; number of persons in the household aged 15 years or more (houshold size).

UniversePopulation of the respective nationalities of the European Union Member States, resident in each of the 27 Member States and aged 15-30 years old. The survey was also conducted in Croatia. The survey covers the national population of citizens in Croatia as well as the population of citizens of all the European Union Member States that are residents in this country and have a sufficient command of the national language to answer the questionnaire.
Sampling Procedure Sampling Procedure
The basic sample design applied in all states is multi-stage random (probability). In each household, the respondent was drawn at random following the "last birthday rule".

    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
