AbstractData on employment not subject to social security, illicit work and tax evasion. Topics: status of employment (full time, short time work, part time, ABM {job creation measure}, trainee, unemployed, pension, in training); time worked each week in primary occupation; temporary work in primary occupation; gross income in primary occupation; paying social security tax and taxes; terms of employment in primary occupation as well as in side job not subject to social security and temporary (50 days or 2 months per year); exercise of employment, side job, temporary work or on vacation, paid in cash; time worked each week, gross monthly income and paying social security tax and taxes for these side jobs; area of business or economic area the side job is in; several employers with whom simultaneously side jobs are held; effects of new store closing times on side job; length of side job in the last 12 months; temporary side job; frequency of side jobs in the last few years; several employers in the last 12 months; employment status in side job (worker, employee, self-employed, independent, honorary); time worked each week in the side job considered most important; desired working hours and time worked each week; interest in acquiring right to a pension from the side job through compulsory insurance payments; type of health insurance; reasons for exercising a side job (scale); relying on income from the side job; over-all gross income from side job; work in side job with or without tax reporting; receipt of transfer payments (earnings-related unemployment benefit, unemployment benefit, welfare). Representative random selection on the basis of an ADM mastersample. The sample consists of altogether approx. 32000 respondents, of which approx. 20000 are from the old states and approx. 10000 from the new states. In the old states additionally approx. 2500 foreigners were interviewed.

Further Remarks

NotesThe current study deals with a second replication investigation. For 1987 and 1992 there are two earlier points in time of comparison for the old states, the new states were first taken into the survey in 1992. The data of these earlier surveys are not in the ZA. The data set presents one part of an omnibus survey. In order to reduce the mistrust of the respondents, the touchy questions were integrated into an omnibus survey. The questions of surroundings picked out as central themes consumer habits and car brand preferences.
