AbstractLiving conditions, moral orientations, political orientations and political conduct readiness of young people and young adults. Topics: subjective age status; satisfactions with areas of life; frequency of political conversations with parents, spouse, friends, school friends and colleagues; frequency of use of non-fiction books, newspapers, television, radio, Internet, discussions, attendance at political events; judgement on political tasks according to how seriously politicians in Germany should take them; attitudes to environmental protection and environmental problems; environment-oriented behavior; moral orientations; postmaterialism; importance of areas of life; sex role orientations; social orientations; closeness to municipality, the old and new states, Germany, the European Union; national pride; objects of national pride; politicians distant from citizens and feeling of political effectiveness; political understanding and complexity of politics; understanding of democracy; attitude to the idea of democracy; satisfaction with democracy in the Federal Republic; attitude to the idea of socialism and socialism in the GDR; self-assessment on the left-right continuum; sympathy scale for parties; attitude to the right to vote as of 16 in municipal, state parliament, Federal Parliament and European elections; anomy; social uncertainty; trust in institutions such as trade unions, churches, judiciary, parties, the Federal German Armed Forces, press, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, citizens' initiatives, large concerns, the Federal Government, the police, television, the Federal Constitutional Court, the Federal Parliament, Greenpeace, the European Parliament and the European Commission; detailed information on current and earlier memberships as well as intensity of participation in activities in associations or clubs; acceptance of functions in these clubs; attitude to and personal activities in peace initiatives, environmental protection groups, self-help groups, nationalist groupings, left groupings and human rights groups etc.; information on further political activities; interest in politics; readiness for various political participation opportunities (scale); political activity conducted at these opportunities; evaluation of unconventional, even violence-oriented, political actions; consideration of the interests of former citizens of the GDR in the unification of Germany; personal advantages or disadvantages from German unification; possibilities to learn from the people in the other part of Germany; attitudes to current relationship of West Germans and East Germans; evaluation of social differences in the Federal Republic; assessment of the equity of these social differences; fair share of standard of living in the Federal Republic and in comparison to people of the same age; reasons and extent of discrimination; assessment of future situation in life in comparison with that of parents; fairness of choices in allocation of training positions; attitudes to foreigners; difference of life style of selected groups in comparison with the Germans; proximity to selected groups as neighbors and with marriage in the family (Bogardus scale). Interviewer rating: assessment of political interest and political knowledge of respondent; readiness of target person for interview; readiness for panel. Also encoded was: residential area; presence of others during interview; length of interview; date of interview; identification of interviewer; sex of interviewer; age of interviewer; municipality code; state; political city size.

Multi-stage stratified random sample (according to the ADM-Master-Sample) Over-sample of old states - new states: ´oversample´ of the new states. Random-route in sample of target households and selection of target persons in household by random number key.
