AbstractThe survey contains two different main focus areas: 1. Attitudes to the European Community and European unification. 2. General satisfaction of respondent with various areas of life and society. Topics: 1. Extent to which informed about the European Community and the Common Market; interest in the problems of the EC and television broadcasts about the EC; attitude to the election of a European Parliament and membership of one´s own country in the EC; problems which can better be solved in a European Government than is the case at national level; willingness to make sacrifices to support European unification; political interest; personal opinion leadership and evaluation of various sources of information on political opinion making; self-assessment on a left-right continuum; 2. Satisfaction of respondent in the areas housing, income, education of children, leisure, social services received, relationship between the generations; satisfaction with the social system and ability of democracy to function; general contentment with life and work satisfaction (scale); change of satisfaction in the last few years; evaluation of the discussions on environmental protection; evaluation of political goals such as: economic growth, co-determination, defense, city renovation, price stability, freedom of speech, combating crime, ideological progress and humanizing society. Demography: age (classified); sex; marital status; number of children in household; religious denomination; religiousness; school education; vocational training; employment; household income; size of household; head of household; party preference; political discussion; membership.

  •  EB - Standard and Special Eurobarometer
    Since the early nineteen seventies the European Commission´s “Standard and Special Eurobarometer” are regularly monitoring the public opinion in the European Union member countries at times. Interviews are conducted face-to-face, in each spring and each autumn, at all times based on new samples with a size 1000 respondents per country. Separate samples are drawn for Northern Ireland and East Germany. After the EU enlargement in 2004, remaining and new Candidate Countries are also regularly included in selected surveys. The Standard Eurobarometer modules ask for attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, complemented by measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as by respondent and household demographics. Intermittently special Eurobarometer modules extensively address topics, such as environment, science and technology, health or family issues, social or ethnic exclusion, quality of life etc. The “European Communities Studies” 1970-1973 can be considered forerunner studies, as well the “Attitudes towards Europe” from 1962.
