Abstract
Determinants of the success or failure of a marriage. Topics: The data set contains surveys on various stages of a relationship. Originally 1000 couples were interviewed at about the time of first meeting or engagement, who then were surveyed several times over a time interval until lasting marriage or divorce. Among other questions the following were posed: attitudes and information on sexual conduct from the perspective of both spouses; attitude of the man and the woman to marriage; difficulties in the marriage; personality characteristics of the spouses; feeling of happiness; agreement of spouses; general satisfaction; attitude to children; attitude to work; age differences of the spouses; circle of friends; hobbies; length of acquaintance and engagement; reason for marriage; extra-marital sexual intercourse; judgement on the financial expenditure practices of spouse; attitude to divorce; religiousness. Demography: age (classified); marital status; number of children; ages of children (classified); religious denomination; income; household income; self-assessment of social class; city size; regional origins; possession of durable economic goods.
