AbstractJudgement on parties and politicians. Political questions. Judgement on the chances of the parties in the Federal Parliament election. Topics: most important problems in Germany; intent to participate in the election; intent to vote by mail; party preference (first vote and second vote as well as rank order procedure); time and certainty of one's voting decision; behavior at the polls in the last Federal Parliament election; attitude to a government majority for the CDU/CSU or the SPD; coalition preference; attitude to a grand coalition, to a coalition of a minority government of the SPD and Greens; sympathy scale for the SPD, CDU, CSU, FDP, the Greens, the PDS, the Republicans and the DVU; satisfaction scale for the Federal Government and opposition parties; sympathy scale for selected top politicians; interest in politics; adequate problem-solving ability of democracy in Germany; democracy as best form of government; chancellor preference; comparison of credibility, energy, sympathy, responsibility, honesty, the winner type, problem-solving ability, ability to achieve regarding other nations, government leadership as well as government team of Kohl and Schroeder; assumed improvement in election result for Schaeuble in comparison to Kohl as chancellor candidate; time for a change of government; general judgement on the economic situation in Germany; expected economic situation; judgement on current and future expected personal economic situation; party most able to solve the economic problems, in creating jobs, solving finance problems, in securing pensions, in the fight against crime, in environmental policies, regarding currency stability, in protection of the country against threat from outside and solving future problems; perceived threat from crime; expected increase in sales tax given an election victory of the Union or the SPD; credibility of the break of the PDS with the SED past; preferred behavior with the PDS; expected winner of the Federal Parliament election and assumed certainty of the election result; expectation that selected smaller parties will take seats in Federal Parliament; significance of government party for respondent personally; self-assessment on a left-right continuum; party inclination; party identification. The following was also surveyed in Eastern Germany: judgement on the political order after western pattern. Demography: state; city size; age (in classes); marital status; living together with a partner; school education; residence in West Germany; technical school degree; completed apprenticeship; employment; security of one's own job; status in occupation; household size; persons over 18 years old in household; primary earner and his occupation as well as occupational position; union member in household; religious denomination; religiousness; unemployed and persons whose job is endangered in one's circle of friends; sex.
