AbstractAccumulated data set of the Politbarometer of the year 2002. Assessment of parties and politicians before and after the parliamentary elections. Attitude towards current political questions. Topics: 1. Topics were repeated identically at each survey as follows: most important political problems of the Federal Republic; intention to participate at the next parliamentary elections; voting behaviour at the last parliamentary election; sympathy scale for SPD, CDU, CSU, FDP, die Grünen and PDS; satisfaction with the performances of the Federal Government (scale); assessment of the performances of theseveral coalition partners in the government as well as the opposition; party preference (according to the ranking method and Sunday question); sympathy scale for the leading politicians of the parties; assessment of the economic situation of the country as well as the own economic situation; expected economic development for the country. 2. At least in one or in several months was asked: coalition preference; mentioning of the five most important politician personalities in the Federal Republic; sympathy scale for the most important leading politicians in the Federal Republic; self-assessment and assessing parties on a left-right continuum; chancellor preference and comparison of Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder with challenger Edmund Stoiber regarding her reliability, energy, sympathy and charisma as a winner type; issue competence of the candidates; satisfaction with the election results; assessment of attributes being appropriate to the parties: progressive, democratic, social, liberal and modern; interest in opinion polls and assumed influences on the public opinion; assessment of the TV duel of the candidates for the chancellorship; assessment of the NRW donation affair to parties; expected frequency of corruption at the placing of public orders; eligible parties; satisfaction with democracy; interest in politics; necessity of a new party; right people in the leading positions; assessment of the situation of the German economy; assessment of the adjustment of the living conditions in East Germany to the conditions in the old federal states; preponderance of similarities or differences between East and West Germany; satisfaction with the condition of the society generally and in comparison to the Western European countries; expected economic development in Germany and own economic situation in a year;   •  Politbarometer
    The ´Politbarometer´ surveys are performed since 1977 at about monthly intervals by the Forschungsgruppe Wahlen (Institute for election research) for the ZDF (Second German TV network). Since 1990 it is also available for the newly formed German states. They are intended to poll the opinions and attitudes of eligible Germans with regard to current events and issues as well as to political parties and individual politicians.

    The data base consists of one-off surveys, panel surveys, and cumulated surveys. It comprises representative polls for all German federal elections since 1949.
