AbstractAwareness of discrimination. Topics: assessment of the extent of discrimination in the own country on the basis of selected characteristics (religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, multiple of the aforementioned characteristics) with regard to: buying property or renting an accommodation, receiving healthcare, educational matters, using services, buying insurance policies; own experience of discrimination as well as recently observed discrimination against other persons due to: religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender, ethnic origin, multiple of the aforementioned characteristics; attitude towards specific legislation in the own country with regard to protecting people from discrimination in the fields of: housing, healthcare, education, using services, buying insurance policies; awareness of the European Year of Equal Opportunities for All 2007. Demography: sex; age; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community; household composition and household size; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; interviewer ID; language of the interview; type of phone line; date of interview; time of the beginning of the interview; duration of the interview; country; region; weighting factor.

    The Flash Eurobarometer were launched by the European Commission in the late eighties, turning out a Monthly Monitor between in 1994 and 1995. These “small scale” surveys are conducted in all EU member states at times, occasionally reducing or enlarging the scope of countries as a function of specific topics. The typical sample size is 500-1000 respondents per country and interviews are usually conducted by phone in the respective national language. The Flash Eurobarometer include series on special topics (Common Currency, EU Enlargement, Information Society, Entrepreneurship, Innovation) as well as special target group polls, particularly company managers with enterprise related topics.
