Errata in current version
2014-4-25Error in filterNine respondents of the post-election cross-section study (lfdn = 2099, 2185, 2766, 2963, 3018, 3046, 3055, 3071, 3737), who stated to have cast their first/second vote, erroneously did not receive the question concerning the time point of the voting decision (n238) (code -97 "not applicable").
2014-10-29Error in filterOne respondent of the pre-election cross-section study (lfdn = 1755), who stated to have cast his vote at the state election in Bavaria (vn133), erroneously did not receive the questions concerning the voting decision (vn134aa-bb) (code -97 "not applicable").
2014-10-29Coding errorTwo respondents (lfdn = 2472, 3566) erroneously received code -97 ("not applicable") in the rotation variable (dvn42).

2018-11-13The variable survey1 "Survey/wave (dummy)" has been added to the dataset. It provides information on whether the respondent took part in the Pre-election or Post-election Cross-Section.2018-11-13
Changes between version 2.0.0 and it's previous version
DateSubjectDescriptionCorrection Description
2014-10-29The variables concerning coded agenda questions (v23a-e, n23a-d, v24a-d, n24a-d), coded reasons for non-voting/voting decision (v223a-c, n223a-c, v14a-c, n14a-c, v222a-c) and willingness to participate in panel (vn269, vnwieend, vnwieekt) have been added to the dataset. Additionally, the dataset now contains a variable that identifies East and West Germany (ostwest), the last time stop from the post election study (nzs29) and party membership from the post election study (n213is). --
2014-10-29The variable elecdist now contains the original information about the electoral district of the respondent according to the coding of the survey research institute. Thus, the assignment of electoral districts on the basis of postcode data is no longer necessary.--
2014-10-29The variables v164n/n164q (Vocational/professional training, don´t know) and v164o/n164r (Vocational/professional training, no answer) are no longer included in the dataset. The respective answers were recoded into the values -99 ("no answer") and -98 ("don´t know") in the variables v164a-m and n164a-p.--
2014-10-29Due to a coding error, all respondents of the post election study, who answered "don´t know" in the politician scalometers (vn22a-e; n22f-j), had been coded onto -99 ("no answer"). This error has been fixed. --
2014-10-29Misspellings in the variable labels of the variables vn211 and vn212 have been corrected.--

  •  German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES)
The German Longitudinal Election Study (GLES) is a DFG-funded project which made its debut just prior to the 2009 federal election. GLES is the largest and most ambitious election study held so far in Germany. Although the initial mandate is to examine and analyse the electorate for three consecutive elections, the aspired goal is to integrate the project within GESIS as an institutionalized election study after the federal election of 2017, and hence to make it a permanent study.
